California voters made a strong statement in support of the environment and climate action this 2024 election by passing Proposition 4.
Prop 4 approved $10 billion in bonds to fund a variety of programs to help mitigate and address the impacts of climate change. Prop 4 passed with the strong support of approximately 58 percent of voters.
Prop 4 invests in proactive climate solutions that will:
- Prevent devastating wildfires and smoke by creating fire breaks and removing flammable brush, increasing forest health, improving early detection and upgrading firefighting equipment
- Provide safe, reliable drinking water by upgrading water infrastructure, restoring groundwater supplies, increasing stormwater capture and providing better water treatment
- Protect California’s iconic natural lands by preserving open spaces, enhancing and restoring habitats and protecting wildlife
- Build clean energy infrastructure to kickstart offshore wind development, modernize our electric grid and build batteries to store clean energy for when it’s needed
An estimated $475 million would be set aside for port infrastructure from the climate bond for offshore wind.
