At a National Press Club press conference on the Anniversary of the Inflation Reduction Act, Elected Officials to Protect America (EOPA) addressed the importance of the IRA to fight the climate crisis as it reduces our carbon footprint, creates jobs, lifts up Justice40 communities, and helps our energy security.

It has been the catalyst that put Am​​erica on the road to a clean energy economy. Nearly two years ago, the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) which contains the largest investment in clean energy in U.S. history was signed into law. “The Inflation Reduction Act is historic. Jobs with training in clean energy manufacturing, and clean energy installation are beginning to lift-up those who had been seeking opportunities but had none available to them simply because of their zip code. “The Inflation Reduction Act is historic. Jobs with training in clean energy manufacturing, and clean energy installation are beginning to lift-up those who had been seeking opportunities but had none available to them simply because of their zip code. Transforming buildings to become energy efficient offers more opportunities for them,” said Dr. Donya Sartor, Jonesboro Mayor, Georgia. “This is the first law to stimulate the growth of good jobs in environmental justice and Justice40 communities that has the sweeping potential to create prosperity on the road to true equality while improving health outcomes. The more it is implemented the more the atmosphere will have less fossil fuel pollutants, which have been fueling the climate crisis.”

About Mayor Sartor:

Dr. Donya L. Sartor is a Georgia native that has lived in the City of Jonesboro for over 20 years. Dr. Sartor is currently serving as Mayor for the City of Jonesboro.  She has worked in the field of education for over 25 years. A graduate of Lakeshore High School in College Park, Georgia, she has a Bachelor of Arts degree from Emory University, a Master of Arts degree from Clark Atlanta University, and a Doctoral degree in Education from Georgia State University.

Mayor Sartor is very passionate about serving her community and has started several initiatives to serve her constituents. Some of her initiatives include an annual school supply giveaway, the Adopt-A- Senior Citizen for the Holidays program in collaboration with the Jonesboro Police Department and hosting Jonesboro’s first Juneteenth celebration. Mayor Sartor also works tirelessly with other community organizations such as the Atlanta Food Bank, Clayton County Board of Health and Clayton County Public Schools to provide services such as food distribution, vaccines, and housing assistance. In January of 2022, she was awarded the  Carl G. Rhodenizer Community Service Award from the Clayton County Chamber of Commerce for her outstanding service to her community. 

She believes our government can do a better job caring for people and envisions a Mayor’s office where agencies collaborate to better meet the needs of citizens, decrease unnecessary spending, safeguard public safety, and increase citizen engagement. Donya’s vision includes diversified housing, expanded wifi, and ordinances to protect green spaces and create more sidewalks and bike lanes.

Mayor Sartor is committed to making sure all people have fair and equal representation and she welcomes input from all of her constituents. She is looking forward to the continued progress and economic development of Jonesboro and working with the citizens, various organizations and businesses within the city. 

Dr. Sartor is a Board Member for Arts Clayton and Bridge of Light, Inc. She was selected as part of the 2021 Class of Leadership Clayton through the Clayton County Chamber of Commerce and currently serves as an Ambassador for the Clayton County Chamber of Commerce. Most recently she was named to the Georgia Municipal Association’s Equity and Inclusion Council.  She also finds time to be active in her sorority, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Incorporated and the Atlanta Southern Crescent Rotary Club.
