Balvir Singh Burlington County Commissioner, NJ on how offshore wind off the New Jersey coast will help his inland community with better health outcomes and less extreme weather caused by the climate crisis.

Balvir Singh is a proud resident of Burlington Township where he and his wife, Sandeep, are raising their four beautiful children GJ, Guni, AJ, and Avleen. He earned his B.A. in Mathematics & Education from The College of New Jersey and earned his M.Sc. in Pure Mathematics from Rutgers University.  

Balvir taught math in a public high school for eleven years and worked as an adjunct professor at Rowan College of Burlington County. Currently, he serves as the Instructional Supervisor of the Mathematics, Business, and Technology departments in a public school district. He has received numerous awards in his academic career and has presented internationally on teaching and learning of mathematics, including recently in Germany and Ecuador. 

In 2014, Balvir was elected to the Burlington Township School Board, a Pre-K to 12 school district with an approximately $70 million annual budget and serving close to four thousand students. He served as the chair of the district’s finance committee during his three-year term. 

Balvir was elected as a Burlington County Commissioner (formerly known as a Freeholder) in a history-making 2017 election. He is the first Asian-American to be elected to a countywide position in Burlington County and the first Sikh-American to be elected to a countywide position in the State of New Jersey. In 2020, Balvir was re-elected for the second term. In his capacity as a Commissioner, he serves as the liaison to the Corrections, Courts, and Medical Examiner’s offices.
